Summer Baseball Camp History

Camp Director gives the final word on 2011 Baseball Camp

paul-hornibrook-portraitSeventy-four kids...between myself and assistant director Jason Fitzgerald, we agreed, if we could get forty kids to come we could make the camp work.  What about the clubhouse sessions in the morning, for an hour, would the kids see it as boring, could we use multi-media to entertain and train the kids in sportsmanship and some life skills?  Would we have good weather?  Would the kids enjoy Bill Swanson, Jason Dickson, Jody Peterson, and Mike Washburn Sr?  Could we get the right volunteer coaching staff?  Well, I can tell you now it all came together perfectly.  The kind e-mails from parents, the handshakes from the kids thanking us for putting on a baseball camp.  Coach Swanson and Dickson saying that they would love to come back again and most of all the best coaching staff a director of a baseball camp could have; Jason F, John, Rod, Derek, Christian, Zach, Ed, Bill, Stephen and Jason D.  I never dreamed we could have such a great group..thanks Gents.  The canteen staff, Jayne Swanson, who took her holidays to come to Canada with her husband to work in our canteen, my wife Bev, she said she kept calling all the kids dear...Lyman and Carrie, you are the best neighbours anyone could have, thanks for giving your time to the kids.  As we put the wrap on 2011, we certainly are looking forward to 2012. It seems a long ways away but the planning will begin again in the fall, and we hope if your kids are able we will see them back again.  For those kids who are now too old, we hope you will have great memories of the first FMBA Baseball Camp, I know I will.  To the City of Fredericton, thanks for the work you do each day to help kids and baseball.   To our sponsors Coca-Cola, M&M Meat Shop on Brookside Drive Fredericton Sports Investments and private individuals, your support meant a great deal.  Thanks also to Kevin Nelson, our Camp photographer and to John Hoffman who helped design our logo and brochures - you both did great work.  To my friend Matt Stairs - thanks for donating the glove, the bat, the jersey and the ball for the raffle to raise the inital amount of funds needed to get the camp off the ground and to put back into player development.  To the board of directors at FMBA your support and faith in me when I first talked about doing a camp and Jason Fitzgerald who said "you lead a camp and I'm in."  Last and certainly not the least, thanks to all the parents and players who supported the camp by attending..."It's All About the Kids"  See you next year.
