Helmets | Proceeds from Stairs evening help fund new minor baseball initiative
Paul Hornibrook hopes the new website for the Fredericton Minor Baseball Association generates a lot of hits
Story and photo by Bill Hunt. Published in the Daily Gleaner.
Hornibrook, the director at large in charge of fundraising for the local organization says the new site, frederictonminorbaseball.ca -- coming soon to a computer near you -- will be used as a communication tool for the organization. Teams in the various divisions will be able to post schedules and team pictures. There are driving directions to the fields in the Fredericton area, with links to weather.
Fredericton Minor Baseball is please to announce a new helmet policy that will follow other associations move to require all players to provide their own personal equipment. This would include, baseball shoes, glove and batting helmet. Teams will continue to be provided catching equipment and bats from FMBA. The Celebration of Success event honouring Matt Stairs held last November 2009 raised funds to help assist in providing helmets free of charge for this year and to help kick start the helmet program. Each helmet will have a commemorative sticker on them recognizing the Y's Men, FMBA, and Matt Stairs for a co-operative effort in raising funds for this program.
